Blog Update

July 20th, 2008

Hello old friends and new visitors! I don’t update this site very often these days, most of my bloggery now occurs at Magnet Cat. Here are a few more updates:

Danredding.com is an old site that includes two outdated portfolios. To view current work, visit my graphic design studio Magnetic State. For design and illustration inquiries, contact me at dan@magneticstate.com

Exciting things are in the works; I just completed two logo design jobs and I’m beginning a few more logo & web design projects. Sometime during the next few months, there will also be a new t-shirt at the Magnetic State Online Store. Use the code ‘wolfout’ for an extra %10 off the Party Werewolf shirt that’s available now!

This blog no longer accepts comments unless you login to Wordpress. This is because this blog was being deluged with comment spam on a daily basis.

I’ll still probably post something here from time to time. Thanks for visiting! Sincerely, Dan Redding

‘Toxic: Garbage Island’

July 9th, 2008

VBS TV (Vice’s online video service) has produced a series called ‘Toxic: Garbage Island.’ Several journalists voyage far out to sea in order to investigate claims they’d read of “a patch of garbage the size of Texas floating in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.” What they found “was an ecological disaster beyond any of our expectations.” This disturbed me greatly but I believe that it’s an insightful look into an important topic. Here is Episode 1 of this series.

This blog gets deluged with spam comments daily behind the scenes. Here’s my favorite from today. I didn’t even know these characters existed on my keyboard. It’s probably an ad for some Russian brand of Viagra.

In The Age of ‘Guitar Hero’…

July 4th, 2008

Right next to the word ‘rad’ in the dictionary, there is this Youtube clip. Here are three Indonesian girls (and one dude) in the band Vendetta covering ‘Now You’ve Got Something To Die For’ by Lamb of God. Check out the breakdown at 1:44!

Precocious Kid

June 26th, 2008

I’m just learning about this kid DJ A-Trak. He’s currently the tour DJ for Kanye West. He won the DMC World Competition at age 15 in 1997, becoming the youngest person to ever hold that title. Here’s his performance from that event. It’s funky as hell and he’s got levels of audacity to match his youth and talent.

Oh look, another Google movie starring my very talented and very bearded friend Ryan Germick. This one is called ‘Mobile tricks: what can you do with your phone?’

Classic Carlin

June 23rd, 2008

I’d say it’s a tragic day for comedy, but that’s an ugly paradox. Besides, George Carlin would prefer it if we are laughing. Still, I’m sorry he’s gone. Here’s the classic bit that once landed the most revered comedian of his generation in jail:

Code Red on the Offensiveness Barometer

June 13th, 2008

I’m quite difficult to offend, but I was outraged recently when Fox News anchor E.D. Hill referred to Barack Obama’s ‘fist bump’ gesture as a “terrorist fist jab.” I actually don’t recall the last time I was so angered. I’m a big fan of some of the most offensive cultural material on Earth (Grand Theft Auto, gangsta rap, Trey Parker and Matt Stone), so if I’m offended, you know something’s up. I consider myself something of an Offensiveness Barometer, actually.

The Obama Campaign has launched a new site called Fight The Smears where lies about the presidential candidate are debunked.

Typographical Time Travel to ‘27

June 13th, 2008

I made a new blog about design. The new post includes typographical time travel to 1927. Do read!
